Permethrin Cream 5% is a topical treatment used to eliminate scabies mites and lice infestations. It is applied directly to the skin and works by paralysing and killing the parasites responsible for symptoms such as itching, rash, and skin irritation.
It should only be applied externally to unbroken skin and should not be used internally.
Permethrin belongs to a class of medicines known as pyrethroids. When applied to the skin, it penetrates the surface and destroys lice and mites by affecting their nervous system.
Once the scabies mites or lice are killed, the associated symptoms – including rash, itching, and irritation – typically clear up.

Apply the cream to clean, dry, cool skin (not after a hot bath).
Massage a thin layer of cream over the whole body from the neck down.
For children and elderly patients, also apply to the face, scalp, ears and neck (avoid eyes and mouth).
Leave the cream on for at least 8 hours (overnight is ideal).
Wash off thoroughly with soap and water the next morning.
Adults & children over 12 years: up to 30g (1 full tube).
Children 6-12 years: up to 15g (half a tube).
Children 2 months-5 years: up to 7.5g (quarter tube).
Adults with pubic lice (crab lice): up to 30g, including application to beard or moustache if affected.
Tip: Wash bedding, clothes, and towels used in the 48 hours prior to treatment to prevent reinfestation.
