It works by forming a protective barrier on top of the stomach contents, helping to prevent stomach acid from rising into the oesophagus (food pipe), where it can cause irritation and discomfort.
This product is particularly useful for people who experience acid regurgitation or heartburn after meals, or during pregnancy, when reflux symptoms are common.
Peptac belongs to a group of medicines known as “reflux suppressants”, similar to products like Gaviscon. Its aniseed flavour provides a soothing, refreshing taste while offering rapid relief.

Peptac Aniseed Liquid can be taken by adults and children aged 12 years and over.
It is also suitable for use during pregnancy and breastfeeding, but you should always check with your doctor or pharmacist first if you have any medical conditions or are taking other medication.
Are allergic to any of the ingredients (see below for the full list).
Rarely, allergic reactions may cause difficulty breathing or skin rashes.
Have been advised to avoid sodium or salt in your diet without medical approval.
Have been prescribed a low-sodium (salt) diet.
Each 10 ml dose contains 6 mmol of sodium, so it may not be suitable for individuals with heart, kidney, or high blood pressure conditions.
Have known allergies to parahydroxybenzoates (E214, E216, E218), as these ingredients may cause delayed allergic reactions.
Always take this medicine exactly as directed in the patient information leaflet or as advised by your doctor or pharmacist.
Adults and children over 12 years:
Take 10-20 ml (two to four 5 ml spoonfuls) after meals and at bedtime.
Children under 12 years:
Only take under medical advice.
Shake the bottle well before use.
Measure the correct amount using a medicine spoon or cup.
Take after eating and before lying down or going to bed.
Do not exceed the recommended daily dose.
If symptoms persist for more than 7 days, consult a healthcare professional.

Sodium bicarbonate 341 mg
Calcium carbonate 63 mg
Other ingredients include:
Ethanol (96%), methyl parahydroxybenzoate (E218), propyl parahydroxybenzoate (E216), butyl parahydroxybenzoate, sodium saccharin, purified water.
Free from: Sugar and gluten.
Peptac is generally well tolerated, but side effects can occur in rare cases:
Allergic reactions, including rash, itching, swelling, or difficulty breathing
Mild digestive discomfort (rare)
If you experience any allergic reaction, stop using Peptac immediately and seek medical attention.

Eating smaller, more frequent meals
Avoiding spicy, acidic, or fatty foods
Limiting alcohol, caffeine, and chocolate
Not lying down immediately after eating
Elevating your head and chest during sleep
Maintaining a healthy weight
Peptac and Gaviscon both contain similar active ingredients (sodium alginate and bicarbonate). Peptac is often used as a cost-effective alternative that provides the same acid reflux protection and relief.
Yes – Peptac Aniseed Liquid is safe to use during pregnancy and breastfeeding, but it’s always best to consult your GP or midwife before use.
Peptac can interfere with the absorption of some medicines. Leave at least 2 hours between Peptac and other oral medications.
