Numark Co-codamol 8mg/500mg Caplets contain codeine phosphate and paracetamol, used together for the short-term relief of acute moderate pain that has not been relieved by paracetamol, ibuprofen or aspirin alone.
This medicine is intended for short courses only, and should not be used for longer than three days without medical advice due to the risk of dependence and side effects.
Moderate pain may occur following headaches, dental pain, muscular strains or other short-term conditions. Combination products containing paracetamol and codeine are sometimes recommended when standard pain relievers have not provided adequate relief.
Codeine is an opioid pain reliever that is converted in the body into morphine. Paracetamol works differently by reducing the production of pain-related substances. Together they may offer enhanced pain relief when first-line medicines are insufficient.
Due to the risks associated with opioids, co-codamol must be used at the lowest dose for the shortest possible time.
