Canesten Vaginal Cream is a clinically proven antifungal treatment for vaginal thrush (candidiasis).
It contains clotrimazole, a trusted antifungal ingredient that directly targets the Candida yeast responsible for the infection, helping relieve itching, soreness, irritation, and discharge.
Suitable for women aged 16–60 who have been previously diagnosed with thrush by a healthcare professional.
Vaginal thrush is a common yeast infection that occurs when the balance of bacteria and yeast in the vagina is disrupted – allowing Candida albicans to multiply.
Common symptoms include:
Itching and irritation around the vagina
Soreness and stinging during sex or urination
Thick white discharge (often odourless, resembling cottage cheese)
Thrush is not classed as an STI and can affect women at any age.
Canesten Vaginal Cream works by stopping the growth of yeast and fungi that cause infection.
The active ingredient clotrimazole damages the fungal cell membrane, helping the infection clear from within.
There are two types of Canesten Vaginal Cream:
Internal vaginal cream – treats the infection inside the vagina.
External cream – relieves itching and irritation around the vulva.
Together, these provide complete relief from both internal and external symptoms of thrush.
For Internal Vaginal Cream
Wash your hands before and after use.
Attach the plunger to the applicator and remove the cap.
Insert the applicator into the vagina as far as is comfortable.
Gently press the plunger to release the cream.
Withdraw and dispose of the applicator.
Symptoms should start to improve within 2-3 days. If symptoms persist after 7 days, consult your GP.
For External Cream
Apply a thin, even layer around the vaginal area 2-3 times daily.
Gently rub in until absorbed.
Do not use for more than 7 consecutive days unless advised by a doctor.
Avoid using tampons, douches, or spermicides while using this treatment.
Suitable for:
Women aged 16-60 previously diagnosed with thrush
Those experiencing vaginal itching, soreness, or discharge
Do not use if:
You are allergic to clotrimazole or any listed ingredient
You have pain, fever, or abnormal bleeding
You are pregnant or breastfeeding (without medical advice)
You have symptoms that differ from your usual thrush infection
Active ingredient: Clotrimazole 1% w/w (10 mg per gram).
Other ingredients: Benzyl alcohol, polysorbate 60, sorbitan stearate, cetyl palmitate, cetostearyl alcohol, octyldodecanol, and purified water.

No. Use after your period has ended for the best results.
Can I use the cream externally only?
Yes. The external cream helps relieve itching and soreness, while internal cream or pessaries treat the infection itself.
